All fridges and fridge freezers in the UK have an energy efficiency rating to show you how economical they are. Look around any show room and you'll see the familiar colour-coded Energy Rated label. Due to a lot of work in this aspect by manufacturers you'll find that most new fridge freezers have an energy efficiency of A or A+, although the scale technically runs from A++ to G. Standardised tests are carried out by trading standards to decide what the energy rating of each product should be.
